why hasn't SAO happened yet? There is a few reasons why but lets get down to the obvious reason. The obvious reasons is because of MONEY!!! Money is a huge thing in our modern day lives, but money is also dangerous to use as well. In the process of making SAO, you would have to make the nerve gear, which would come out around somewhere in the billions. Next, you have to make the game itself, which is a bit more trickier than you think. You see, virtual reality isn't ready for some of these things.
1. GUI's
2. walking (but that will be covered due to the fact that your not using a oculus rift, your using a NerveGear)
3. pain (not to feel it but to not feel it)
4. the 5 senses
ETC.
all the research going into making that technology would cost somewhere in the millions. But worst of all, the time is another thing. Making a game not only as huge as SAO, but as complicated as SAO would take time. Time is something that many people don't have. Plus there's the problem with achieving your goal by the deadline. My mom works for a website making company, and she would know about how difficult it is to get something done on time for the deadline. Most of you people probably don't know about how difficult it is to hit a deadline, however I have some reference to go off of to make it more clear to you guys. On SAO abridged, Kayaba explains to Kirito why he made SAO. It was because of a deadline he had on a website. Kayaba then goes on to explain that the reason SAO kills players is because he stayed up 2 weeks straight to get the darn thing done. But somewhere in that period of time he created a glitch where if your avatar dies you die. So then Kayaba says that he then trapped all the players in the game to make it look like its his master plan, blah blah blac, my point is its hard to hit a deadline. And as long as it would take to make SAO, it would be very, very, VERY hard to hit the deadline. My point is we have the technology, but we can't make it because of the money it would take, the problems with making the game, how long it would take to make it, and the problems with hitting the deadline.
I guess it's safe to assume that we should probably wait until these problems are fixed before we make SAO or the NerveGear.
